Title: Engineered vegetal waste-derived biochar for agronomic and environmental benefits (BIOCHAR)
Project number: 372PED / 2020, UPB T CH 45-20-03
Project type: Experimental – Demonstrativ Project
Project code: PN-III-P2-2.1-PED-2019-4917
COORDONATOR: University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (UPB)
PARTNER: University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (UASVM) of Bucharest
SCOPE
- BIOCHAR project aims at generating a laboratory validated technology for the thermochemical conversion of vegetal wastes, i.e., by slow pyrolysis followed by physical/chemical treatment, into suitable biochar (BC) types that can be subsequently applied for agronomic and environmental benefits
OBJECTIVES
- production of BC by slow pyrolysis of untreated/chemically treated vegetal waste in a fixed bed reactor under various process conditions
- production of tailored BC by physical/chemical treatment of pyrolysis BC for further use in specific applications
- evaluation of pyrolysis BC/treated BC potential to amend the soil and remediate the pollution
OUTCOMES
- a technology for preparing engineered BC with properties tailored depending on nature and characteristics of waste feedstock, pyrolysis conditions, type and conditions of physical/chemical treatment
- different types of engineered BC with proved ability to amend the soil and/or adsorb environmental contaminants
- communications and ISI papers which will disseminate the research results
